NI Conservatives’ spokesman, Trevor Ringland, has described the G8 summit as “an opportunity to showcase Northern Ireland to the world” and “a clear signal that we’re open for business”.

“The prime minister really has delivered something spectacular for Northern Ireland and demonstrated how committed he is to this part of the UK, by bringing the G8 to Fermanagh”, Trevor emphasised.  “There is no greater statement of intent than showing we can host the biggest and most significant gathering of international power-brokers, against the backdrop of some of our most stunningly beautiful countryside.  David Cameron is telling the world that Northern Ireland is a society with a hopeful future, an outward looking attitude and that we’re open for business.”

“It’s now up to the executive to show that it can capitalise on that message by finally making substantial progress on healing divisions in our community, putting jobs and enterprise at the centre of all of its policy decisions and showing that it is capable of working in the best interests of all the people of Northern Ireland.”

“Conservatives in government have delivered for Northern Ireland on a consistent basis.  66,000 people here have been lifted out of the tax system, double jobbing is being stopped and millions of pounds have been provided to spend on infrastructure.  Two Conservative secretaries of state have stood up for Northern Ireland’s interests consistently in cabinet.  Now, out of the whole of the UK, Fermanagh has been chosen to host the G8.  It’s time that the executive began to do its bit, because too often it hampers the potential of our people and holds our society back.  We believe in Northern Ireland and its future.  This is a stunning opportunity and we must make the most of our time in the spotlight.”
