“Fishermen will be safer”, thanks to George Osborne’s pledge to spend fines levied on city bankers on search and rescue services and lifeboats, according to NI Conservatives’ agriculture and fisheries spokesman, Paul Leeman.

“As part of the budget, the chancellor says he will spend fines taken from banks, for wrongdoing such as the Libor scandal, on search and rescue, lifeboats and other similar charities”, Paul explained.  “It’s an imaginative scheme to turn penalties for sharp practice and greed into something really positive for communities across the United Kingdom.”

“I’m sure the money will be well used by rescue services who stand to benefit.  By introducing these measures George Osborne will make people working in the fishing industry safer, as well as everyone else who enjoys our coastlines and seas.”
