'Grow up' Brotherston urges city councillors

The council chamber of Northern Ireland’s capital city was turned into a “primary school playground”, after councillors clashed last night over a football scarf, according to NI Conservatives’ spokesman, Mark Brotherston.

“It’s hard to know who was more pathetic.  The DUP councillor, Ruth Patterson, who decided a football scarf was suitable attire for an elected assembly, or the Sinn Féin councillor representative who provoked an unseemly ten minute row over its presence in the chamber”, Mark said.  “Is this really the standard of behaviour that the people of Belfast can expect from these two parties?”

“This type of conduct brings Northern Ireland’s capital city into disrepute.  It’s also a disgrace that elected politicians can find time to indulge in childish arguments over a football scarf, when there are enormous issues to be solved, around creating jobs, helping businesses and providing hard working people with the best possible services.”

“Voters will despair of representatives from the DUP and Sinn Féin ever finally growing up and starting to deliver for all the people of Northern Ireland.”
