NI Conservatives challenge Naomi Long to tackle world hunger by joining a government committed to international aid

NI Conservatives’ vice chair, Trevor Ringland, has challenged Naomi Long to join Liberal Democrats in government, after the Alliance MP urged G8 leaders to tackle world hunger.

“I agree with Naomi Long and, as prime minister, David Cameron has done more than anyone else to combat hunger by protecting and indeed increasing the international aid budget”, Trevor explained.  “In contrast, as a lone MP who has chosen to stay out of government, despite her party’s professed connection to the Liberal Democrats, Naomi can effectively do nothing to tackle this problem.”

“The G8 illustrates again that none of the parties at Stormont offer voters or young people in Northern Ireland the opportunity to reach the top in UK politics, or to make a meaningful contribution to the type of debates which are being discussed at Lough Erne.  As a member of the UK Conservative family, the NI Conservatives are the only party to offer Northern Irish people the chance to become part of the government, or even to become Prime Minister and influence politics at the very highest level.”

“Unfortunately Alliance turned down the chance to give Northern Ireland a voice in the current government.   In fact the party performs all sorts of contortions in order to get out of giving voters a meaningful say in UK politics.  Naomi Long should do something useful about world hunger and reverse this position.”
