The Conservative chairman in North Down, Paul Leeman, thanked voters for their support in the local government election and expressed optimism about the party’s future in the area.

“We claimed 3% of the vote, which is a threefold increase on the last council election”, Paul said, “It was a bad day weather-wise and turnout was down badly, but we’re looking to the future and we have a platform to build on.  I’d like to thank everyone who cast a vote for the Conservatives, our excellent candidates and the team who campaigned long and hard in the run up to the election”.

“Recently we opened up our office in Bangor and it is staffed by a full time employee.  Our intention is to keep building from the grassroots in order to offer people in North Down the benefits of a national party which is nevertheless grounded in local politics and local issues.  The election allowed us to do some useful groundwork and it’s a case of ‘onwards and upwards’ for the Conservative party in Northern Ireland”.
