The NI Conservative Chairman, Irwin Armstrong, met with the Prime Minister this morning prior to his announcement that the G8 conference was coming to Fermanagh. He also attended the Cameron Direct Question and Answer session in the NACCO factory in Craigavon Irwin took the opportunity to impress upon the PM the seriousness of unemployment here, the overall economic situation in NI and the impact that could be made with lower Corporation Tax. They also discussed the cost of segregation in Northern Ireland and how the money could be better deployed to help the economy. Irwin said “The G8 meeting is tremendous news and will be a major fillip for NI, especially Fermanagh. It is impossible to overstate the importance of this event to Northern Ireland: with the top 8 leaders of the world attending and the international media coverage. This is a demonstration of the Prime Minister and the Conservative party’s commitment to Northern Ireland. The Prime Minister is fully aware of the many problems we face here and will act where possible to ensure that we all share in the future prosperity of the United Kingdom.”
