The Conservative Party has chosen Neil Wilson to contest the East Belfast seat at the forthcoming General Election.  East Belfast Conservative Association selected Neil on Monday night (5th January).  He is a former Conservative councillor, who works for an IT company based in East Belfast.

“It’s an honour to be selected as the Conservative candidate for East Belfast”, Neil commented.  “In the run up to May, this constituency is likely to see a depressing, nasty scrap between old Stormont parties who have failed the area in the past.  I’ll be offering voters something different.  A fresh alternative, which puts Northern Ireland at the centre of UK politics, gives people here a meaningful say in who forms the next government and addresses the issues which make a real difference to people’s lives on a daily basis.  However other parties conduct themselves, I’ll be talking about the things I’m passionate about - tackling the scourge of youth unemployment, creating more private sector jobs to balance Northern Ireland’s economy and putting hard-working people first.”

“A vote for the same old parties will not only lead to more of the same old nonsense from local politicians, which makes people so fed up, it will also help Ed Miliband and the Labour Party.  When I’ve been out on doorsteps throughout the constituency, people are always saying that they would vote for Conservatives if they lived in England, or that they would prefer David Cameron and George Osborne in Downing Street, rather than Ed Miliband and Ed Balls.  Well our message is that you can vote to make sure that happens and it is the responsibility of voters, right across the UK, East Belfast included, to do just that.  It’s a general election and the most powerful way anyone can use their democratic freedoms is to vote for the government they want to see at Westminster.”
