Steve Baker, Conservative MP for Wycombe, addressed Conservatives and friends from across Northern Ireland on Saturday, at an event organised by the East Belfast Conservative Association.

Steve, nominated on the website Conservative Home as Westminster ‘Newcomer of the Year’, spoke about his vision for the future of conservatism, before Richard Brown, chairing the debate, opened the discussion to contributions from the floor.

Richard, who also chairs the East Belfast Conservative Association, thanked Steve for a “hugely interesting and informative talk, from an MP articulating some of the most positive traditions and values of the Conservative Party.”

“Everyone thoroughly enjoyed Steve’s address”, Richard continued, “which focussed upon economic problems and the need for ‘sound money’, as well as the legacy of Burke and Disraeli in the modern Conservative Party.  He explained very eloquently how Conservative principles can best protect the vulnerable and create a happy, prosperous society.”

Richard also thanked Terry Dick for organising Steve’s trip to Northern Ireland and all the other East Belfast members who helped make the morning such a success.
