This afternoon, the Northern Ireland Conservative membership had the opportunity to meet with Party Chairman, James Cleverly as part of his tour of the United Kingdom.

After the event, Mr Cleverly commented that it was “great to be in Northern Ireland and speak to our party membership here. A membership which has seen an increase of over a third since February - to over 600 members. Whilst of course the government’s top priority is to get devolved governance back up and running, we also recognise that politics in Northern Ireland needs to change. I believe the Northern Ireland Conservatives can play a big role in this, and indeed that this very impressive increase in membership shows a real appetite for change in this part of our United Kingdom. I wish the party here well and offer them my full support moving forward - as the party of the United Kingdom.”

Gary Hynds, Deputy Chair of the Northern Ireland Conservatives followed on by stating that it was “wonderful to have our party chairman James Cleverly here talking to members during his UK wide tour. This once again demonstrates the Conservative Party’s commitment to Northern Ireland and our place in the Union. As James has mentioned, our membership increase is fantastic and does indeed prove that people are looking for something different in Northern Ireland - which we are determined to offer. The Conservative Party welcome all those who genuinely want to play their part in changing politics here for the better. Together, we really can make a difference.”
