NI Conservatives’ security spokesman, Julian Robertson, has expressed shock and horror after a prison officer, David Black, was murdered when shots were fired at his car on the M1 motorway, near Lurgan.

“I want to express deepest sympathies to the officer’s family, after this terrible incident”, Julian said.  “It is an absolute tragedy that someone’s life can be taken away, so cruelly, on their way to work to serve the whole community of Northern Ireland.”

“Whoever has committed this murderous act deserves the strongest possible condemnation.  Whatever the motives, they are cowardly, seriously deluded and have absolutely nothing to offer Northern Ireland, except to drag us back toward a place where no-one wants to be.”

“Anybody who thinks they can help the police with their enquiries, in whatever way, should do so immediately, in order to bring the perpetrator to justice.”
