NI Conservatives’ spokesman, Trevor Ringland, has described celebrations of Margaret Thatcher’s death as “pathetic, undignified and in dreadful taste”.  Trevor made his comments after a handful of so called ‘death parties’ were held for a second night.

“The tiny number of people publicly celebrating Baroness Thatcher’s death are making fools of themselves”, Trevor observed.  “It is a pathetic to see so-called ‘parties’ marking the passing of a frail, 87 year old woman, who effectively retired from public life over 20 years ago.”

“It is a mark of the significance of Margaret Thatcher’s time as prime minister that it still stirs passions so many years later.  I think she would have relished and welcomed the debates about her political legacy, because she was a democrat and she realised that her policies divided opinions.”

“The celebrations of her death and the personal venom, she would have held in contempt.  Not only should the people engaging in these activities have some respect for the grief of Baroness Thatcher’s family and friends, they should have more respect for themselves and regard for their own dignity.”
