Ballymena businessman, Irwin Armstrong, will represent the centre-right in Northern Ireland at Margaret Thatcher’s funeral tomorrow.  The NI Conservatives’ chairman will pay his respects to the former prime minister at the ceremony in St Paul’s Cathedral, London.

“I’m honoured to have the opportunity to represent Conservatives from Northern Ireland at Baroness Thatcher’s funeral tomorrow”, Irwin said.  “She meant a great deal to people from across the political spectrum here, but particularly to those of us on the centre-right, many of whom became involved in politics due to her influence.”

“As prime minister Mrs Thatcher made an outstanding contribution to our United Kingdom, transforming the economy and building the modern country which we know today.  It is important that her contribution is recognised and that people get an adequate opportunity to pay their respects.”

The NI Conservatives have opened an online book of condolence, which can be signed at the website www.nitory.com.  There is also a book of condolence at the party’s office in Bangor, which will remain open until Wednesday next week.
