Don't let down NI drivers on DVA consultation, McBride urges ministers

NI Conservatives’ environment spokesman, Brian McBride, has repeated his call for Northern Ireland drivers to receive the same registration and licensing services as the rest of the UK.

“Currently the government is conducting a consultation into our driver and vehicle licensing arrangements”, Brian explained.  “NI Conservatives are very clear that the outcome should be better services and more convenience for motorists in Northern Ireland.  Currently we are receiving inferior services, without the ability to tax a vehicle online or at most post offices, simply because unions and Stormont ministers have been determined to prevent reform.”

“That approach cannot be allowed to continue.  Certainly, if jobs can be saved at the Driver and Vehicle Agency’s operation in Coleraine, those options should be explored.  However the executive simply cannot keep depriving motorists of a good service.  The emphasis with this consultation and all responses should be on providing the best services, in the most convenient possible fashion, otherwise drivers in Northern Ireland are being let down.”
